In this talk, we present two ideas to further reduce energy consumption in the context of in-network aggregation. First by influencing the construction of the routing trees for sensor networks to reduce the size of transmitted messages. Secondly by imposing a hierarchy of output filters on the sensor network, while maintaining the Quality of Data (QoD) above a certain, user-specified threshold. We will describe the basic framework for both ideas and present experimental results. Overall, these schemes provide significant energy savings with neglibile drop in QoD.
