Group Members
Faculty
- Azer Bestavros
Azer Bestavros focusses his research work on techniques
for involving servers into the caching, prefetching, and replication
protocols in distributed information systems (such as the WWW).
- Mark Crovella
Mark Crovella is applying performance measurement and analysis of the
Internet to problems in wide-area resource discovery, caching, and
replication.
- Abdelsalam Heddaya
Abdelsalam Heddaya concentrates on name resolution, routing and caching
protocols, that achieve desirable Internet-wide global properties
(such as load-balancing) while using purely local information.
- Stan Sclaroff
Stan Sclaroff is interested in the development of efficient
representations for content-based image and video database search for
the WWW.
- David
Yates
David Yates studies computer networks in his research,
focusing on issues of scale, performance, security, and privacy,
as networks become ubiquitous.
Visiting Scholars
- Virgilio Almeida
Virgilio Almeida is interested in studying and modeling the behavior
of caching systems for large-scale information systems.
- Cristina Duarte-Murta
Cristina Duarte-Murta is interested in studying the
impacts of realistic traffic on various aspects of the Web server
performance.
Students
- Alia Atlas
Alia Atlas' research focusses on developing and evaluating
TCP-variants suitable for Web short-lived connections over a network
with bursty traffic.
- Paul Barford
Paul Barford's research focuses on developing performance modeling,
measurement and evaluation techniques for distributed systems such as
the WWW.
- Robert Carter
Bob Carter's research involves development of techniques for
application-level end-to-end network performance measurement and their
application to the server selection problem.
- Carlos Cunha
Carlos Cunha's research focusses on developing and evaluating
client and server log-based mechanisms to improve the performance of
information retrieval.
- Gitae Kim
Gi Kim's research focusses on developing and evaluating
communication protocols for applications with real-time,
fault-tolerant requirements.
- Sulaiman Mirdad
Alumni
- Felix Kozodoy (Spring 1996)
Felix' Masters Project involved the design of a user proxy for
recording statistics of user access patterns.
- Leonid Taycher
Leonid's Masters Project
involved the design of several components for the ImageRover project.
- Chau Anh Nguyen (Spring 1996)
Nguyen's undergraduate directed studies involved extending the NCSA
HTTP server (HTTPd) to provide hints to clients for
prefetching purposes based on 1st and 2nd order Markov models for
server documents.
- Martin Mroz (Fall 1995)
Martin's Masters Project involved the extending Mosaic 2.4 to support
disk caching and client-initiated prefetching.
