Undergraduate Newsletter for September, 2003 -------------------------------------------- Dear CS Student: Welcome back to BU and a new school year! As usual, I wish the summer had gone on for a few more weeks, but I am looking forward to the new semester and its challenges, and I hope you are too. Before I give you the scoop on new developments for the Fall term, I'd like to remind you that as Undergraduate Director for the CS Department, I am available to you by email, phone, or in person to help you with any aspect of your studies in the CS department. I invite you to come by to discuss any concerns or issues you have, and I encourage you to come by to give me feedback on our courses, teachers, or computing infrastructure. Here is my contact information: Associate Professor Wayne Snyder Undergraduate Director, CS Department Office: MCS 283 Office Hours: TBA (look on my web page in a couple of days) Email: snyder@cs.bu.edu Phone: 353-8926 (but I prefer email!) Web: www.cs.bu.edu/snyder/Home.html I also work in CAS advising (room 105) on Fridays, and in a pinch you can come see me there, or call me at 353-2400.... Ok, here's the news, in approximate order of urgency... Must-read Note for International Students ----------------------------------------- New Federal regulations require that all international students must check-in and be verified as physically present on campus during the first two weeks of school (the deadline for this verification is September 16). You can do this at various sites around campus: ISSO Office Office of Information Technology University Service Center Athletics Department (300 Babcock) CAS Advising Office (Room 105) CAS Records Office (Room B-3) CAS Room 102 You can also register in the CS office (talk with Jennifer). Additional information can be obtained on the ISSO website: . Important Scheduling Note about CS 210 -------------------------------------- This year (2003-2004), we will be offering CS 210 (Computer Systems) ONLY ONCE, in the FALL TERM. It will NOT be offered in spring of 2004. Sorry to shout, but you need to know this if you were planning to take it in the spring. There is plenty of room in CS 210 this fall (meets MWF 2-3 in GCB 207), so you could take it now, or you could wait until fall of 2004. We will try very hard to offer it in summer of 2004, but I can not be certain about this yet. New Director, New Feedback Form for Computer Lab ------------------------------------------------ Professor Matta has taken on the role of Director of Laboratory Operations, overseeing computer facilities in the department and in the Undergraduate Computer Lab. As part of this effort, he has created a student feedback form: Please bookmark this and pass along any comments you have on the lab and its staff. Cheers, Wayne Snyder CS Undergraduate Director MCS 283 snyder@cs.bu.edu 353-8926 This message will be archived on the department web page under "UGrad Letters."
